  • Parenting | EMERGE CENTER

If adolescence is the most turbulent time of childhood, then it is surely the most turbulent time of parenting. The teenage years are marked by rapid changes in physical and emotional development and increased risk for nearly everything. Parent Groups Raising children can be challenging, overwhelming, and deeply rewarding; often all at once. Parents are constantly learning, adjusting, and doing their best with the tools they have. Our parent groups are designed to offer support, practical guidance, and a sense of connection so you don’t have to navigate parenting alone. To help, we offer several services: Find support, build skills, and navigate parenting with confidence. Join Now Parent Coaching EMERGE offers coaching designed to empower parents by helping them identify their parenting goals, develop skills and effectively address challenging parenting issues. Different from therapy, coaching focuses on working only with parents and offering more direct feedback and problem-solving. It can range from a single session consult to an ongoing coaching relationship throughout the parenting years. For more information, contact us . The following trainings for parents were conducted for the DJUSD Parent Empowerment Program and can be accessed via the DJUSD website (link below). Parent Training SCREEN ADDICTIONS DJUSD Parent Empowerment Program December 2024 For many children and teens, screen use can mimic patterns of drug addiction and create difficulties associated with addictions, such as lying, stealing, pleading, threatening and erupting in anger. When parents attempt to limit screen use, they may face enormous challenges with no easy answers. This PEP Talk discussed the growing prevalence of screen addictions and strategies parents can use to address these issues and live more harmoniously. Watch PERFECTIONISM IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS DJUSD Parent Empowerment Program October 2024 Perfectionism can be a force for success and achievement, but it can also lead to high stress levels, strained relationships and burnout. Characterized by unrealistic standards and harsh inner criticism, perfectionism contributes to many psychological conditions, including depression, anxiety, self-harm and eating disorders. Often starting in childhood, perfectionism appears to be on the rise in the United States. This workshop covered what perfectionism is, how it can sabatoge success and what parents can do to help their perfectionistic children. Watch BLENDING MODERN AND TRADITIONAL PARENTING DJUSD Parent Empowerment Program May 2024 Modern parenting is a relatively recent development that is marked by a child-centered, emotion-focused and process-oriented approach. Traditional parenting has a long legacy and is family-centered, behavior-focused and responsibility-oriented. This workshop explored the benefits and challenges of both approaches and discuss strategies for blending these two styles of parenting. Watch

  • Adolescent Groups | EMERGE CENTER

Adolescents grow in groups. While individual therapy offers teens a private and focused hour that can be extremely beneficial, it cannot offer the kind of social experience that teens can benefit from in groups. Group therapy is experiential learning of a social and emotional nature. As a result, group therapy has several advantages over individual therapy. ADOLESCENT GROUPS Adolescents are more lonely now than ever before. And group therapy can be a powerful way of making connections and feeling less isolated. As social relationships have added importance in adolescence, group therapy offers an opportunity to work on relationship skills with other group members and develop a support system to deal with all the challenges of adolescent life. A safe space to be heard, supported, and understood. Every teen is dealing with something different, that’s why we offer themed groups designed for what you need. Whether you want to manage anxiety, build confidence, or feel more connected, there’s a group where people get what you’re going through. • Our Process | EMERGE CENTER

Our Process First Contact and Initial Phone Call Whether our first contact is by email, phone or text, we will arrange a few minutes to talk with you by phone to better understand your needs. We will discuss treatment options and whether we have a therapist that can address your needs. If so, we will connect you with someone on our team. If not, we will refer you to another therapist or service that is a better fit. Assessment Session(s) The first 1-3 sessions are the assessment phase of therapy. We gather as much information as possible about your concerns, their history and what you have tried to address them. During this process, we will discuss our impressions of your situation and recommend a course of treatment and/or action. While it is hard to predict how treatment will work because there are so many variables, we will give you some idea of our thought process on this and what you might expect. Ongoing Sessions Assuming that your treatment involves ongoing sessions, the therapist will check in with you frequently to ensure that your concerns are being met. Discussing the process of therapy with you directly is not only good customer service, it is an essential ingredient of good therapy. Ending Therapy Therapy is a strictly voluntary process and can end any time you want. However, it is useful to discuss your desire to end therapy with your therapist for several reasons: If there are any concerns about your therapy, we can address them directly It is a way to review progress on your goals We can plan for as smooth an ending as possible While therapy can go on indefinitely for personal growth reasons, this should be a well thought out choice after specific areas of concern have been addressed.

  • Our Needs Statement | EMERGE CENTER

    These days statistics on the risks and challenges facing adolescents and young adults are in the news everyday.   However, we prefer to focus on their innate developmental needs.  Risk happens when we pay attention to these needs.
